Dear Vinod Kumar Ajad - At the onset pls. accept my heartiest congratulations and best wishes for all the good work that you and your team have been doing. I truly believe in banning meat export and protecting the cows. But I believe requesting to impose a ban such activities is one of the many possible ways to uproot this problem. Following measures should also be given due importance.
1st. Religious Ban by Each Religion : It is against our religion to promote slaughter of cows and use of its body parts, however, over a period of time people seems to have started show blind eye towards this aspect. The religious heads should strive to reinitiate our cultural values in the minds of our people.
2nd. Animal Husbandry Law: Raring of cows for slaughter should also be stopped and should be classified as illegal.
3rd. “Biogas” plant : Most of the cows supplied to the slaughter houses come from poor farmers therefore following activities should be carried out. a. Uplift the economic status of the farmers will significantly aid in uprooting this problem b. Educating the farmers not to sell their cows to the agents / agencies who buy cows only to resell them to the slaughter house. By law such agents and farmers dealing with them should be punished. c. Law should be enforced making sale of Cow by farmers to non farmers as illegal and punishable offence. d. In most cases the farmers sell only those Cows which have lost productivity due to old age and/or sickness. Therefore, every village should be encouraged to build a “Home for the aged Cow”. The wellbeing of such cows should be the responsibility of the entire village. e. Every village should have a “Biogas” plant which uses the Cow waste to produce usable energy. This energy should be made freely available to all the villages encouraging them to take care of the Cow. f. Farmers should be educated on cultural and religious values and make them aware that protection of cow is their “Dharma” and not an obligation.
4th. Alternative use of unproductive Cow’s : Till some time back unproductive horses were shot down, however, the research work conducted by Serum Institute Of India Ltd. Pune, Maharashtra, brought about a revolutionary change and discouraged this practice in our country. Now the unproductive horses are sold to this institute, where the horses are taken care by the institute and in return the institute produces anti viral and other important drugs from the blood serum of the horses. A similar alternative use of unproductive cows needs to be encouraged. One of the immediate known uses of such cows is to encourage use of cow waste for biogas, fertiliser, pesticide and ayurvedic medicine.
5th. Dairy farms: There are many dairy farms which have mushroomed in and around the major cities and exploit cows on daily bases. These farms look at cows as a source of money and use them as long as they can produce the required quantity of milk. The cows are sold as soon as the cow’s productivity drops down. Therefore, sell of Cow by such farms should be strictly controlled and should be made a punishable offence. The attitude of looking at cow as a machine to make money should be changed.
6th. Stop to use Leather Products: The slaughter houses makes money from every part of the animal body and leather is one of the most rewarding parts. The profitability of slaughter houses and their competitiveness in the international market heavily relieves on the sale of animal hide in the local leather industry. Therefore, to uproot this industry the primary aim should be to educate the people to avoid lather products (Shoes, sandals, bags, jackets, wallets ………list goes on and on) and promote alternative products. Recently Rajiv Dixit gave lecture on the protect of cows. Rajiv Dixit says, " Within 63 years, cows of India have been killed about 75 crores. More than 30,000 factories of Cow Slaughter are being operated under the control of Government of India and state. Rajiv Dixit has demanded from Govt., it should be banned immediately, otherwise, consequances may be very horrible. Cow is mother of every Indian and it is very useful for farmers.
